Day 58 – 04 August, 2011 – Carlton Place, Ontario to Rockland, Ontario

It was a lovely, sunny morning and 20 degrees.  I helped Brian tidy up and set off, heading back to Highway #7.  The corn is in tassle and is very fragrant.  Wild roses were also very noticeable.  East of Carlton Place, it is a multi-lane highway.  I soon came to Hazeldean Road which was a busy roadway, heading to Stittsville.  There was a bike lane which was well used.  This road turned into Baseline Rd, then to Heron.  As I approached Highway 417 to go north, there were signs that cyclists were not allowed.  After lunch Brian took me a few kilometres to my turnoff, County Road 17.  I wasn’t happy about the ride, but our purpose isn’t to break the law or cause a hazard.  Traffic was constant on Highway 17 and the shoulder was in very poor condition.  It was hot and humid.  Brian stuck pretty close, never going ahead more than 10 kilometres.  Eventually we turned on to Old Hwy 17 and cruised along beside the Ottawa River. Such beautiful scenery!  At last we saw Bo and Melissa’s house.  Their landlord Francois, was out cutting the grass, and helped us set up the trailer in the driveway.  We had a fabulous steak dinner with the kids and then Francois took us for a sunset boat ride.  The end of a perfect day!   Today’s total, 99 km.
